How She Gets To Bed: Sarah Fielding & Samme Kubik, Co-Founders of Empire Coven

How She Gets to Bed is a deep dive into how women who kick ass during the day spend their night. Tonight, we’re so excited to feature the co-founders of Empire Coven, a site that highlights trailblazing women in and around New York City through engaging interviews. They also have a shop small guide and a book club featuring female authors. Currently, they are expanding to amplify the voices and talents of women across the country. Without further ado, here’s how they get to bed.

Late Night Snacks

Samme: Chocolate chips, sour gummy worms, tea, and La Croix! Lately, I have been craving a late-night decaf coffee which usually has to be paired with some kind of chocolate. Also during quarantine, I have been really into drinking hot water with ginger. So I try to have at least one glass before bed too. I also haven’t been drinking this past month, so where I normally might have a glass of wine, I have switched to La Croix.

Products to Get Unready

Sarah: I use Blume Day Dreamer Face Wash every night and the night cream from The Body Shop.

Samme: I recently spoke with one of her close friends who has an aptitude for skincare. She told her friend all the products she was using, and based on their ingredients, her friend fine-tuned her routine. She now uses Rodial Bee-Venom Cleanser combined with the biweekly use of an AHA cleanser for exfoliation. These products are followed by Tatcha’s The Essence and Water Cream. Oh and then just a drugstore Chapstick! I also have been trying self-lymphatic drainage massage, so I use a Jojoba oil on my body most nights.

Activities to Relax

Sarah: I love to create our content in Canva for our Instagram feed as a way to de-stress. It has been a great creative outlet to take a break between other work.

Samme: Walking has also been a great way to relax, especially with the start of Summer. I love putting in my headphones and just getting lost in the music for a bit.

Both: As for nighttime relaxation, we either watch Netflix or read our latest book club pick. This month’s pick is The Truth About Keeping Secrets by Savannah Brown. (There is still time to join!)

Nighttime Routine

Samme: Reading has also been added into my nightly routine. I’ve found I am not as tired at night now that I am doing less during the day, so I am able to get through a few chapters before getting sleepy. I also like journaling or just creative writing at night.

Both: We don’t have an exact schedule before heading to bed. We try to mix things up every night. Some of the things that are in the rotation are checking email (We do that constantly, though. Ugh!) and some phone or TV time in general. Lately, it’s been finding small businesses for us to feature. We often discuss our Instagram posting plans for the next day, usually coming up with creative captions! We also have been spending some time checking in on friends as part of our nightly routine. This has been a nice way to stay connected and feel some normalcy!
