How She Gets to Bed is a deep dive into how women who kick ass during the day spend their night. Tonight, we’re thrilled to feature Sage Lally, the founder of be., a weekly newsletter that shares women and non binary people’s stories to help you make friends, learn new things, and feel understood. She is a full-time freelancer right now, doing photography (She got her BFA from NYU in 2019!), social media, and content creation for start-ups. Each day looks different for her, but you can usually find her curating be.’s newsletter, managing social platforms, editing stories, and dreaming up new ideas. Without further ado, here is how she gets to bed. 💤

Background

Industry: Content/Marketing/Media
Occupation: Currently, be. is a one-woman show! I’m the founder, and being a freelancer in addition allows me the luxury of time in building be.
Age: 22, almost 23!
Location: When we’re not in the middle of a global pandemic, I live in NYC
Awake by: I’m almost never willingly awake by 9:00 AM. If I have no responsibilities, you’ll catch me asleep until 12:00 PM on weekends.
Asleep by: I try to be asleep by 12:00 AM, but I find the later hours of the evening to be one of my most creative times. Sometimes you’ll catch me up till 1:30 AM curating an Instagram grid or brainstorming a new newsletter topic.

Late Night Snacks

Depending on the day, you can find me snacking on popcorn, cheddar and sour cream Ruffles, cereal, or fruit. But if I’m really craving a treat, there’s nothing I love more than Blue Bunny Load’d Sundae cups (especially salted caramel pecan and cookies crunch n’ fudge.) If you’re as passionate about ice cream as I am, you should check them out! 🍦

Products to Get Unready

I am a night shower person, so my product application begins then. I am currently using the method men’s body wash because their scents are to die for. I fittingly (because of my name) am using juniper and sage right now. Then I use Body Clear from Neutrogena on my back and chest, and the Youth To The People Superfood Cleanser last (which I would die for). If it’s a hair wash day, you can find me currently trying out Prose, but I’m not loyal to any shampoo and conditioner (yet!) When I get out of the shower, I apply the Youth To The People eye cream to under my eyes (It helps with dark circles) and the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream to my eyelids because I get eczema there. For the rest of my face, I love the First Aid Beauty Coconut Water Cream.🥥

Activities to Relax

During the pandemic, I have watched TV with my parents almost every night since I’ve been home. Some of the shows we’ve finished are Lucifer, Never Have I Ever, Jane the Virgin and How to Get Away with Murder, which are all fantastic. When it’s just me in NYC, you can usually find me watching YouTube videos, journaling, or spending time on social media.

Nighttime Routine

Recently it’s looked like this:

7:00 PM — Eat dinner, normally prepared by my mom … hopefully lasagna. 🤞

7:30 PM — Clean the kitchen and go for my first or second walk of the day with our Chug Marley and my parents.

8:00 PM-11:00 PM — Catch up on all our shows (We get the “Are you still watching?” alert a lot … but yes, Netflix, we are) or catch up on FaceTime with my friends, whom I miss dearly! 📱

11:00 PM — Make my to-do list for the next day, using colored highlighters to mark priority items.

11:15pm — Take my shower (see previous question for details) and listen to a podcast, normally interviewing another female founder whom I look up to.

11:30pm — Get in bed and either read, play iMessage games, watch YouTube videos or work on be.’s IG grid. (Oh, and always read The Snoozeletter ) 🤗

12:00 AM — Put my phone down and will my busy brain to sleep!
