On the Day-to-Day

I run a weekly newsletter and a literary journal called The Alipore Post, which showcases poetry, art, music, and all things interesting that I discover online. I’m also a writer, visual artist and occasionally make music for fun.

I’m not a morning person, but I do like being up early and feeling productive and not lazing. I start my day with a cup of hot water and lemon, bathe, and then sit at my desk to work on whatever’s pending. It could be curating the newsletter, replying to submissions for the journal, writing an article, or illustrating. Really depends on the mood and work load. Then I usually cook myself some brunch, and watch/read something after. Then it’s back to work for a few hours, a walk or yoga in the evening (though I must admit I’m quite lazy on many days), and then dinner.

Products to Get Unready

I need to bathe before getting into bed and eat something delicious at night for dinner. I’m indifferent to breakfast/lunch, but dinner needs to be amazing. I take bucket baths, so I sometimes add some essential oils or bath salts into it to feel extra relaxed. And then listening to Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou at least once or twice a week. I use Nivea cream on my face and rub some lotion on my feet and body once in bed. And I need lots of pillows around me to feel cozy under the blanket.

Activities to Relax

I love going through my Feedly account, which is hyper-curated and where I got my dose of inspiration. I’m so immersed in art and my love for visuals, that it feels like a treat to read some good poems on sites like Poetry Foundation or On Being, and checking out some art or reading blogs like Swiss Miss and The Curious Brain and seeing a few good things. Netflix has also been a friend during these past few months, and I recommend everyone go and watch The Trial of the Chicago 7. I enjoy a foot soak and playing some vinyls in the evening to wind down and relax.

Late Night Snacks

Heh, I love snacking at night. It’s usually just wafers and cheese — local Indian varieties. I also like cold pizza and chocolates (there’s one called Nutties that really hits the spot) :D I’ve also been making batches of cookies at nights this year.

Nighttime Routine

I have dinner around 7:30 PM/8:00 PM. The pandemic has meant being alone most of the time, so post-dinner, I usually catch up with family over a call, and then get into a lazy state of mind until bedtime. I love doing a Headspace meditation before I sleep, and on most days, some gratitude journaling and reading at least 10 pages before I sleep. Overall, it’s just a combination of Netflix, reading, surfing Feedly, and chatting with friends before my body asks me to get off the screen and get into bed.
