How She Gets to Bed is a deep dive into how women who kick ass during the day spend their night. Tonight, we’re thrilled to feature Rebecca Daramola, founder of Gapwhiz, a platform that matches students seeking in person or remote internship or work opportunities (home country or abroad) with employers and organizations providing opportunities (through partnerships with employers from various industries). Gapwhiz also connects students with professionals in the field of interest and offers application writing support. Rebecca is also a recent Biochemistry graduate from the University of Oxford and a Future Solicitor at Allen & Overy LLP. Without further ado, here is how she gets to bed. 💤

Rebecca’s Background

Industry: Recruitment/Education
Occupation: Founder at Gapwhiz and Future Solicitor at Allen & Overy LLP

On the Day-to-Day

My day to day activities involve offering one to one support to students in relation to work and study opportunities or helping to improving their application. Typically, I’m also reaching out to employers to create new opportunities for students and for the past couple of weeks my work has been focused on collaborating with organisations to provide summer remote internship opportunities across various industries. One of the most rewarding aspects is inspiring students to seek international experience through talks and events. There are students interested in international internships or study experiences (in person or remote) but need support with navigating this. We are on a mission to support every student with finding the perfect opportunity for their career.

Activities to Relax

I spend a lot of my breaks watching series on Netflix. One of my recent favourites is Behind Her Eyes (based on the book written by Sarah Pinborough). I’m into psychological thrillers and watched all of it in two days (hoping for a new season soon!). I also spend a good hour or so scrolling through my Instagram feed, to catch up on different stories from celebrities and watching videos from my favourite YouTube influencers. Since the COVID lockdown, I’ve spent most evenings going for walks around the local park and residential areas.

Products to Get Unready

I love using a facemask once or twice a week. One of my favourite products is by Star Skin! On other evenings I use Simple face scrub. I have naturally oily skin so I try to keep a simple routine with no face oils etc.

Late Night Snacks

I’m a big late night snacker and typically snack whilst working. I try to snack more with fruits, especially grapes. I also have biscuits (milk chocolate digestives and ginger biscuits are my favourites), Salted Plantain Chips and sometimes Snickers chocolate bar.

Nighttime Routine

7:00 PM — Go for a walk around my local area. Sometimes I also do some shopping in the supermarket and corner shop.

8:00 PM— I have dinner around this time. Dinner is mostly home cooked meals with my family and siblings. Sometimes, I order from food from Uber Eats if I have a busy evening ahead.

9:30 PM— Typically I’m working (and snacking) or catching up with friends and social media If I’m having a relaxed week work wise

1:00 AM–2:00 AM — I’m not an early sleeper so it takes me a while to fall asleep. I take a shower, carry out my facial routine and head for bed. Sometimes I spend some more time on social media whilst tucked in bed and end up sleeping around 2AM.
