How She Gets to Bed is a deep dive into how women who kick ass during the day spend their night. Tonight, we’re excited to share the routine of Navi, one of our very own co-founders of The Snoozeletter! She’s a 27-year-old software engineer and entrepreneur in DC. She loves meeting people and is a self-care enthusiast. Now she’s combined the two to help create The Snoozeletter. Without further ado, here’s how she gets to bed.

Background

Industry: Tech
Occupation: Software development, Marketing
Age: 28
Location: Washington, D.C.
Awake by: 6:30–7:00 AM
Asleep by: 11:00 PM

Late Night Snacks

No late night snacks for me! I stop eating by 9:00 PM.

Products to Get Unready

Skincare is an important part of my nighttime routine. I like to have a squeaky-clean face before I bury it in my bed sheets, no matter what time I get home! I use Neutrogena Make-up remover cleansing towelettes to wipe off my make-up/impurities then follow up with a PCA Skin Facial Wash. My face often feels dry after a wash so I make sure to replenish and re-hydrate my skin with a serum and moisturizer or a Vitamin C oil. Every few months, I switch up my products but currently, I use Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Serum and Kate Somerville’s ExfoliKate Glow Moisturizer. Both of these products hydrate my face so much that I literally wake up with a glow! (btw, the Vitamin C oil that I use is from Image Skincare and that also gives me a glow in the morning).

Lastly, I drink a tall glass of warm lemon water before going to sleep. My face looks and feels more hydrated (and shines) in the morning than when I skip this last step. Drinking lemon water is an essential part of my nighttime routine!

Activities to Relax

I really enjoy storytelling and visuals. But I don’t want to get too invested in a story right before bed so one of my nightly rituals (while I’m washing my face, etc), is to have re-runs of Friends playing in the background.

I’ve seen all seasons of this show over 10 times and counting! Since it’s a light-hearted and feel-good type of show, I know I won’t be too invested in each episode and this always puts me in a positive and relaxed mood as I’m getting ready for bedtime. It’s a nice, happy routine!

Also, one of my favorite activities to do before bedtime is journaling. This is incredibly calming because I get to recap my day, make sense of the crazy and not-so-crazy things that might have happened but most importantly, it helps me prepare for the following day. When I journal, I’m relaxed before sleeping and I’m relaxed when I wake up. I don’t always have time to put pen to paper before I sleep but when I do, it’s hard to put the pen down!

Nighttime Routine

5:00 PM — If I don’t have any plans after work, I usually relax for a while before I begin cooking dinner. Usually by this time I’ve figured out what new recipe I want to cook tonight and while I prep the ingredients, I’ll play a TV show in the background or listen to a podcast.

7:00 PM— Dinner was delicious! If I’m hooked onto the TV show I was watching while eating, I try to finish it off. Otherwise, I catch up with work.

7:30 PM — If I don’t have plans after dinner, I might step out to go to a local coffee shop to read a book, engage in some conversations, or spend time introspecting in my journal.

8:30 PM — I’m probably still at the coffee shop! I probably met a friend to catch up with :)

9:30 PM— I go home to get ready for bed.

10:00 PM— I go through my typical nightly routine. Afterwards, I quickly tidy up my bathroom and bedroom before hitting the bed.

10:45 PM — I’m in bed thinking about my day. I think about something that happened during the day which made me feel grateful. I put on my sleep eye mask, let out a few yawns, and drift off in sweet slumber.
