How She Gets To Bed: Connie Wong, Founder of Moderne Press
How She Gets to Bed is a deep dive into how women who kick ass during the day spend their night. Tonight, we’re delighted to feature Connie Wong, founder of Moderne Press, a PR agency that primarily represents female-led brands in the fashion, home decor, kids, and lifestyle spaces. They represent brands and work with the media to secure press on behalf of our clients. Without further ado, here is how she gets to bed. 💤
Background
Industry: Public Relations
Occupation: Founder of Moderne Press
Location: Bay Area, CA
Awake by: My alarm is set for 6:45 AM, but sometimes I’ll hit snooze til 7:15 AM. ;)
Asleep by: 11:30 PM — Midnight
Late Night Snacks
I try not to have snacks beyond 8:30–9PM (I almost always regret it the next morning if I do!); but I do like to stay hydrated, so I usually try to drink a lot of water (or tea when the weather is colder) before 10PM.
Products to Get Unready
I’ve been trying to clean up my beauty routine over the past 10 years, and I think I’m pretty close! I start with One Love Organics’ Vitamin B Cleansing Oil, followed by a nourishing oil to boost my moisturizer. I’ve rotated between Josie Maran’s Argan Oil Light, Beautycounter’s oils and One Love Organics’ Botanical E Youth Preservation serum. I’ve been using Beautycounter’s eye cream and lightly dab it on with my fourth finger, which I’ve read puts the least amount of pressure on your eye area. This is all followed by Biossance’s Squalane + Omega Repair Cream. Lastly, I might add Summer Friday’s Jetlag mask if I need it!
Activities to Relax
I will catch up on any work that I need to, which will definitely settle my mind (versus being anxious about the next day’s too-long to-do list). I also usually do a stretching routine to help me (and my body) relax.
Nighttime Routine
7:30 PM — Read a bedtime story (or she reads to us) and put my daughter to bed. She usually asks me to stay in her room for a bit after lights are out, so I’ll do email or catch up on news on my phone then.
8:00 PM — Out of the kiddo’s room. Try to catch up with my husband for a bit on our days, as well as run any need-to-knows past each other — whether it’s for the next day or plans for the upcoming weeks. I’ll also catch up on any work during this time. Before the pandemic, I tried not to work too much after I get home, but with distance learning for my kid, that’s basically impossible. I try to limit it to only a couple nights a week at most, but that’s simply not possible some weeks.
8:30 PM — Grab some water, a small treat (shhh, don’t tell my kiddo), reading CNN/New York Times and zone out a bit on TV (Hulu, etc.).
9 PM-ish — Shower and get into PJ’s!
Somewhere between 9:30PM -10:30PM — Settle in on some stretches for the evening to unwind my body. Sometimes it’s a short yoga stretching routine or just a few minutes doing a guided stretching routine. Once a week, I also try to do a guided foam rolling routine, so that sometimes falls into this time; this can take anywhere between 30–60 minutes (and I try to plan accordingly).
11:00 PM — I try to be in bed around this time. It’s usually a mix of a mindless scroll on Instagram, watching a show or reading a book on my phone. (Unfortunately, the advice of turning off screens before bed doesn’t really work for me!) Then lights out! It takes me awhile to get to bed, so I’m hopefully asleep anywhere between 11:30 and midnight.
